Subject: The command line interface to RIS-View and RIS-Info

Product: RIS-View & RIS-Info

Last Updated: February 22, 1999

Overview

This document describes the command line interface to RIS-View and RIS-Info. The interface is very similar between the products. The features allow the control of application from the command line or from a batch file.  Please also see the on-line help system for more information (search on DDE).

Details

The application may be launched with commands to be executed once loaded. If the application is already running, using the command line interface will bring the application into focus and execute the commands. You cannot have multiple copies of the application running simultaneously.

In the following list, items shown in brackets should be replaced with input from the user. The brackets are used here to differentiate from the command characters. In use, do not put the brackets on the command line. The following commands are available from the command line:

[filename] Opens the specified well (RIS-View only). You may now setup various file extensions to use RIS-View as the default viewer. e.g. you may set RIS_16RV.EXE as the default viewer for LAS files. This allows you to open and view an LAS file by double clicking on it in File Manager, Explorer, etc
-W:op[name] Open the specified project (RIS-Info only).
-W:sp Save the current project (RIS-Info only).
-W:cp Close the current project (RIS-Info only).
-W:ow[name] Open the specified well (RIS-Info only).
-W:sw Save the current well (RIS-Info only).
-W:cw Close the current well.
-L:o[filename] Open the specified log template. A Log View must be the active window.
-L:s Save the current log template. A Log View must be the active window. Currently, this will bring up the filename prompt and wait.
-L:c Close the current log template. A Log View must be the active window.
-P Print the current view. Currently, this will bring up the print dialog and wait.
@[filename] Uses the commands in the specified file as additional command line options. There must be just one command per line.
&[filename] Uses the scripts in the specified file. These are the same scripts the program generates from the command line parameters. This feature is not documented, and will be changing, but this will allow controlling the program remotely in future releases. There must be just one command script per line.

Example: The following command will open a sample LAS file in RIS-View from the command line (assuming it is in the current directory), and then open a new plot.

RIS_19RV.EXE SAMPLE.LAS -L:oC:\RIS-VIEW\BIN\PLOT\DEMO.PLT

File Association

You may also set up an association to the application for extensions you will often open in RIS-View. See Technical Document #3001 (Tech3001.htm) for details.

Conclusions

The command line interface allows simple control of the application from Windows, from a batch file, or from other applications. We will expand these capabilities in the future to add additional, or improve the existing, functionality.
